A portion of Main Street between Pierceville Road and County Road in Wareham was closed due to the active crime scene.

According to reports, the shooting is said to have happened moments after the son asked the father to unlock a shed so that he could take a picture for a friend of a power washer. Gomes Jr. allegedly walked back towards the son, pointed his finger at him, and said, “I’m going to kill you.”

The son then allegedly retrieved a gun from his backpack and shot him.

Authorities allege that Gomes III used an untraceable gun with an obliterated serial number.

“It appears to be something that was absolutely so unnecessary. Over nothing. Now we have one man gone,” said Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz.

Gomes III was ordered held without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 27.

The shooting remains under investigation by authorities.
