The Difference Between Lindsey’s and 12 Knots in Wareham
A new chapter has begun at one of Wareham’s most familiar restaurant sites. 12 Knots is now open on Cranberry Highway at the former Lindsey’s Family Restaurant location, and owner Michael Dearing said he is determined to honor the legacy of a place he grew up with.
Why Does Lindsey’s Mean So Much to the New Owner?
"I grew up in the area and played youth hockey in Wareham," Dearing said. "They held hockey banquets at Lindsey’s a couple of times, so I’m abundantly familiar with the legacy of that place."
Dearing said that it makes owning his new restaurant even more special. He admits he has a high benchmark when he says his goal is to meet or exceed the decades of hospitality and excellence people remember at Lindsey's.

The Meaning Behind the Name 12 Knots
"Talking to many boaters and fishermen over the years, I came to the conclusion that 12 knots provided the ideal condition for all boaters, and we want to provide the ideal conditions for all diners," Dearing said.
What Is on the Menu at 12 Knots?
Dearing has been in the restaurant business his whole life. He owns the Fireside Grill in Middleboro, his parents owned Hell’s Blazes in Middleboro and his family once owned the Sun Tavern in Duxbury. Everything in the kitchen at 12 Knots is homemade from scratch, and guests are telling him they are getting a taste of what Lindsey’s used to be. His motto is “one size fits one,” which means you can stop in for a quick sandwich or settle in for a many course culinary experience. 12 Knots also hosts functions.

What Has Changed Inside the Old Lindsey’s?
Dearing told us he almost bought the building three years ago, when it was for sale the first time. He said it had 80s décor, older carpeting and fixtures, and some older kitchen equipment. The dining room furniture is mostly new, the kitchen has big upgrades and there is now an outdoor deck. He expects diners to find his new property energetic, bright and more modern.
How Can You Check It Out?
The ribbon cutting is on October 22, and it will benefit the Buzzards Bay Coalition. 12 Knots is staffed up for the winter, but Dearing said he always makes room for all stars. Visit 12knotsgrille.com to learn more.
