UPDATE (1-3-2022): Wareham schools will be opened on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

Wareham Public Schools are getting an extra day off before returning from the holiday break because there are not enough healthy staff members available, which will also delay the opening of the town's brand-new elementary school.

In an announcement posted to the Wareham Public Schools website on Sunday, Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood said that school will be canceled on Monday, January 3, 2022 “due to the number of staff members who are ill.”

“It is my hope we return on Tuesday, January 4,” wrote Shaver-Hood. “I will send announcement (Monday) updating you on our return.”

Monday, January 3 was supposed to be the first day for students attending the brand-new Wareham Elementary School. The 159,100-square foot state-of-the-art school on Minot Avenue will house all Wareham students Pre-K through Grade 4, replacing the town’s two previous existing elementary schools: Minot Forest Elementary, which opened in 1966, and John W. Decas Elementary, which opened in 1969.

Wareham Remembrance Trees

The 73 decorated remembrance trees adorning Wareham's Besse Park are more than a sign of Christmas. They symbolize the individual beauty of lost loved ones.
