Wareham Schools Superintendent Drops Discrimination Lawsuit

WAREHAM — Wareham Schools Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood has dropped the discrimination lawsuit she took out against the town last December — and she announced her retirement earlier this month.

Shaver-Hood has been superintendent of schools in Wareham since 2013.

At a School Committee meeting on Dec. 2, she announced that she will be retiring effective July 31, 2022.

In December 2020, she took out a lawsuit against the town, the school committee, and several committee members alleging discrimination due to her gender, age, and sexual orientation.

The action centered on a negative performance review she received in November 2019 that resulted in her not receiving a pay increase.

Shaver-Hood alleged that the three school committee members named in the complaint based their negative feedback on animus towards her, rather than her performance.

But court records show that after dropping the complaint against two of the committee members in early November, on Dec. 20 Shaver-Hood agreed to dismiss the entire complaint.

It is unclear if the suit was settled, and if so, the amount of the settlement.

Shaver-Hood's attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.

Another lawsuit taken out against Shaver-Hood by a former employee in October is ongoing.
