Repeat Offender Allegedly Leads Wareham Police on High-Speed Pursuit
WAREHAM (WBSM) — An Onset man with a lengthy criminal history, including multiple drug convictions, was arrested this morning after allegedly leading Wareham Police on a high-speed chase with suspected fentanyl in his vehicle.
According to police, a sergeant stopped a white Camaro just before 2 a.m. on Main Street. They said the Camaro fled as the sergeant approached the vehicle, taking off at a high rate of speed.
Police said the Camaro led officers onto Interstate 195 westbound and hit estimated speeds of 130 miles per hour, leading officers to stop pursuit over safety concerns.
A Rochester Police officer then spotted the Camaro on Route 105 in Marion, getting onto I-95 eastbound heading back toward Wareham.
Police said Wareham officers then deployed “stop sticks” as the Camaro entered Wareham on I-195.
“Even after several deflated tires, the Camaro continued onto Interstate 495 northbound, where it lost one of its tires and rims before finally coming to a stop and safely ending the pursuit,” police said.
The driver was identified as Peter Rezendes IV, 35, of Onset. He was placed into custody without incident, police said, and officers found suspected fentanyl and a large amount of cash inside the vehicle.
Rezendes was charged with failure to stop for police, operating after suspension-subsequent offense, plate violation, marked lanes violation, operating to endanger, and possession with intent to distribute a Class A substance-subsequent offense.
He will be arraigned Monday morning in Wareham District Court.
According to police, Rezendes has a lengthy criminal history, including numerous narcotics-related convictions.
A Peter Rezendes of the same age was arrested by Wareham Police in connection with a stabbing in Onset Center in March 2016.
In December 2016, a Peter Rezendes of the same age listed as homeless from Wareham was arrested by New Bedford Police on multiple marijuana charges.
Then, on July 3, 2020, a man identified as Peter Rezendes IV of the same age, but living in Marion, was arrested after allegedly leading Wareham Police on a high-speed pursuit in the late-morning hours.
