Wareham Man Arrested on OUI and Other Charges After Fleeing Police
WAREHAM (WBSM) — A Wareham man was arrested on multiple charges including allegedly driving under the influence after leading police on a chase and crashing his vehicle into a fence and parked vehicle.
Police said that on October 7, just after 1 a.m., an officer conducted a motor vehicle stop with a black Buick sedan on Onset Avenue. They said that before the officer could exit his cruiser, the Buick took off at a high rate of speed.
The Buick then drove up Tenth Street and crashed seconds later into a fence and a parked vehicle in the area of Union Avenue.
Police said the man that was driving the vehicle then fled the scene, leading officers on a foot chase, when they said they observed him discarding items in a nearby wood line.
With the assistance of the Plymouth County Sheriff’s K9 unit, officers were able to locate the suspect, identified as Cody Connolly, 32, of Wareham. Police said he was identified by witnesses as being the driver of the vehicle and he was placed into custody without incident.
According to police, officers located a plastic bag that Connolly had allegedly discarded that contained cocaine and mushrooms.
Connolly is charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, failure to stop, leaving the scene of property damage and drug offenses. He will be arraigned Tuesday, October 10 in Wareham District Court.
