Wareham police arrested two men after responding to a broad-daylight fight involving a machete. Police responded to Onset Avenue and East Boulevard at about 1:30 p.m., but a Chrysler Sebring driven by one of the men had left the scene. Police stopped the Sebring about a mile away, however, and arrested the driver 22-year-old Kohlbey Hammond, of Onset, and Aurthor Mpofu, who is charged with brandishing the machete. A search of the car turned up the weapon. Hammond told police that his windshield was struck by a rock near Point Independence Bridge and that he had stopped to confront the person he believed threw it. Mpofu claimed he used the machete to defend himself from the alleged stone-thrower. Police said no one was injured in the incident and both men will be arraigned Monday in Wareham District Court.
