SWANSEA — A Swansea selectman has entered the race for Bristol County Register of Probate.

Attorney Christopher Carreiro says he officially filed requisite statements and other elections documents with the Office of Campaign and Political Finance (OCPF) late last week.

Carreiro has experience in local politics, holding his first elected position on the Swansea School Committee from 2010-2015. In 2015, Carreiro was elected to the Swansea Board of Selectmen.

“Former Bristol County Register of Probate, Attorney Gina DeRossi did excellent work bringing the Bristol County Probate and Family Court into the 21st Century, and I look forward to finding new ways to improve the Bristol County Probate and Family Court to better serve all the cities and towns of Bristol County,” said Carreiro.

“The Register of Probate serves a critically important public service role and as an elected official and a full-time practicing attorney, I believe I am uniquely qualified to build on the foundation that Former Bristol County Register of Probate, Attorney Gina DeRossi, has established over the past decade. In the coming weeks and months, I look forward to continuing to meet with voters and community leaders as I explore the possibility of running for Bristol County Register of Probate.”

Professionally, Carreiro is an acting attorney and owner of Carreiro Law Office, PLLC. He also works in real estate, serves as a Swansea firefighter and is an instructor at Bristol Community College.
