‘Dangerous and Desperate’ Fugitive Caught in Wareham

WAREHAM — Wareham Police say a "dangerous and desperate" fugitive has been captured.

Acting Police Chief John Walcek says Anthony Vieira, 24, of no certain address, was captured Friday morning after a "violent struggle" with police.

Vieira was transported to Wareham Police Department headquarters.

Walcek had reported earlier Friday that Vieira was responsible for a violent attack on a Wareham Police officer overnight, sparking a widespread manhunt for the fugitive.

Walcek said that Vieira is believed to be responsible for violent crimes in Wareham and Fall River since he defaulted on a January 29 court appearance.
