UPDATE: Vieira has been captured by Wareham Police

WAREHAM — A man wanted for multiple violent crimes in Wareham and Fall River has reportedly attacked a Wareham Police officer.

Acting Police Chief John Walcek says Anthony Vieira, 24, of no certain address, committed more felonies Thursday night into Friday morning in Wareham. In an email, Walcek says Vieira "Attacked a police officer and now is on the run."

"VIEIRA IS A DESPERATE AND DANGEROUS INDIVIDUAL THAT NEEDS TO BE CAUGHT," Walcek wrote in the email.

Walcek said more details would be disclosed later Friday.

Early Wednesday morning, Wareham Police checked multiple locations for Vieira after receiving information from Fall River Police that he may be located in Wareham. Fall River law enforcement officials said Vieira is believed to be responsible for a number of violent crimes in the city on Tuesday night.

Vieira is believed to be driving a stolen black Nissan Versa with a Florida registration.

Wareham Police are requesting the public's help in locating Vieira. They are urging area residents to call 911 if they are aware of Vieira's whereabouts.
