According to a Facebook post from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, a Westport resident recently discovered a case of military dynamite dating back to the 1960s.
Multi-Agency Emergency Response in Westport
The person notified the authorities, and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad was called in to support Westport Police and the Westport Fire Department in removing the explosives.
The Department of Fire Services said that the Westport Department of Public Works assisted in removing the case of dynamite from the residential area and “transported [it] to a remote location for safe disposal.”
The department did not give any information as to where the dynamite was discovered or how it could have got there.
Interestingly, the discovery was announced on June 25, the birthday of actor Jimmie "JJ" Walker, who popularized the phrase “DY-NO-MITE!” on the 1970s television series Good Times.
A Return SouthCoast Trip for the Bomb Squad
It also marks the second visit to the SouthCoast by the State Police Bomb Squad in just over a month. Back in May, it was called in after a pipe bomb was discovered in Lakeville.
