WESTPORT (WBSM) — The Fairhaven man killed in Monday afternoon’s motor vehicle crash on Interstate 195 in Westport has been identified.

Multi-Vehicle Collision Stops I-195 Traffic in Westport

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III said that Massachusetts State Police received multiple 911 calls at about 3:20 p.m. on July 27 reporting a serious motor vehicle crash involving three vehicles on I-195 westbound near mile marker 16.2 in Westport.

Police arrived to find a blue Audi in the right lane with front end damage, and a white Chevy Silverado in the tree line with catastrophic damage. A green BMW was involved in the crash but had fled the scene, the D.A.’s Office said.

Victim Identified as a 64-Year-Old Fairhaven Man

The driver of the Audi was not injured and remained on the scene to speak with police. The driver of the Silverado, identified as Mario Carreiro, 64, of Fairhaven, was found outside the truck and was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

Investigation Continues

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, led by Massachusetts State Police and State Police detectives assigned to the D.A.’s Office.
