PORTSMOUTH, RI (WBSM) — A Wareham man is under arrest for allegedly soliciting a Rhode Island minor for sex.

According to Portsmouth Police, John Magee, 28, was arrested by detectives on August 29 following an investigation into the solicitation of a minor for sexual activity.

Police allege that Magee traveled from Massachusetts to the Portsmouth, Rhode Island area to engage in sexual activity with a juvenile girl, and that he also allegedly provided her with marijuana.

Detectives located Magee inside of his vehicle in the area of the Portsmouth Plaza and conducted a traffic stop before taking him into custody. Police said inside of his vehicle, detectives found numerous knives, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and other evidence.

Magee was arrested and charged with indecent solicitation of a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and possession of weapons other than firearms.

He was arraigned in Second Division District Court and released on $5,000 personal recognizance.
