Wareham Halloween Bash Returns to Honor Loved Ones Lost to Cancer
WAREHAM (WBSM) — While most people find joy and excitement around Halloween, one family has faced pain during this festive season.
For Wareham resident Tina Pittsley, this time of year has transformed into a celebration of fun, costumes, and most importantly, a time to give back to the community.
For the past five years, Pittsley has hosted a Halloween bash at the Onset VFW to partner with local cancer organizations and raise money.
Having personally experienced the devastating impact of cancer, Pittsley knows the pain of loss all too well.
In fifth grade, Pittsley saw firsthand what cancer did to her mother. Then while she was in high school, she saw her brother Joe having convulsions on the classroom floor, only to find out that he had a serious brain tumor at age 15. He passed away before turning 21.

What used to be a hard time of year for Pittsley has been redefined through this annual bash, giving her the chance to support families facing similar challenges.
Since starting it, Pittsley has raised around $8,000 through her annual fundraiser.
Despite the challenges, organizing the Halloween Bash has become somewhat easier for her. As October approaches, she believes this year's will be just as impactful and enjoyable as those in the past.
"It's a little emotional and hard because I'm thinking of my brother while planning this, but I'm just thinking about the people and who I'm helping," she said. "Practice makes perfect."
Pittsley said that she also pays tribute to her brother through her costumes by wearing outfits she knows he would have loved to keep his memory alive.
Local businesses and the community have continued rallying behind the fundraiser with generous donations and prizes including gift cards, electronics and numerous raffle items that will be up for grabs during the night.
In addition to donations going towards the Jimmy Fund and other local cancer organizations, Pittsely said funds also go towards helping a local family in need.
"If you're going to pay for a Halloween party, you might as well pay for a good cause," she said. It's an honor to do this with everything I've been through. It helps me and the community."
The Halloween Bash is open to the whole community and will take place at 4 Gibbs Ball Park Road in Wareham on October 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Entertainment and food will be provided, ensuring a memorable night ringing in the spooky season.
Tickets are just $20 and kids can enter for free. However, a GoFundMe is available for easy contributions if you would like to donate but can't attend the event.
