A Wareham man who was attacked by a shark in North Carolina's Outer Banks is reported to be in good condition.

Vidant Health released a statement from 67-year-old Andrew Costello saying he is focusing on his revocery and asking for privacy.

Dr. Eric Toschlog, the Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at Vidant Medical Center, says McDonald suffered "a major, but non-lethal shark bite to his thigh."

While McDonald's condition was upgraded, Dr. Toschlog says his injuries will require multiple additional operations.

McDonald was swimming in waist-deep water with his adult son about 30 feet offshore Wednesday when he apparently bumped into a shark and the shark attacked.

The Standard-Times says Costello was an editor with the paper, he also worked for the Boston Herald.
