WAREHAM — Pezzoli Square in Wareham is a parking area on Main Street that is named in honor of a police officer who was shot in the line of duty.

Tuesday, it was a busy place for the police as they took three people into custody at the location.

At around 12:30 in the afternoon, the acting police chief and a lieutenant from the department saw Thomas Tavares, 60, of Wareham at the Square, and arrested him on an outstanding warrant.

Not long after, a Wareham officer arrested Barry Pires, 60, of West Wareham at the same location on charges of disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, indecent assault and battery, and resisting arrest.

The third arrest of the afternoon at Pezzoli Square came when an officer determined that Sarah Chiuchiolo, 52, of Wareham had an active warrant for her arrest.

Tavares, Pires and Chiuchiolo were all taken the Wareham Police Headquarters, and then on to District Court.

The officer who the square is named after was Ray Pezzoli, who was shot while on patrol in the 1950's. He did recover the his wounds and returned to the police department.
