TAUNTON — Three drivers were taken to the hospital with injuries following a three-car crash in Taunton on Wednesday morning that resulted in the closure of a main road for over an hour.

Taunton police said the crash took place at around 8:25 a.m. Wednesday near 634 Winthrop St., which is Route 44.

The drivers of all three cars involved in the crash were taken to local hospitals, according to police.

One person was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and two were transported to Morton Hospital.

The extent of their injuries was not disclosed and their current condition is not known, although no fatality has been reported.

Residents reported online that Rt. 44 remained closed at around 10:15 a.m., more than an hour later, as Taunton police investigated the cause of the crash.

The road was reopened later that morning.

The investigation is ongoing.
