TAUNTON — Taunton police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at a local gas station on Wednesday evening, and they're asking for help from the public in identifying the suspect.

Police said in a release that officers responded to a reported robbery at the GeKo gas station on Weir Street just before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

They arrived to find the store clerk suffering from an apparent hand injury sustained in the robbery.

Police said a man in his 40s or 50s robbed the store and fled on foot with the store's cash register.

The suspect may also have been injured in the incident, police said.

According to the release, the clerk was taken to Morton Hospital for treatment.

Images of the suspect taken from surveillance footage show a man with a beard wearing a sweatshirt.

The investigation is ongoing.
