It looks like gamers are saying no to Nintendo. Both Sony and Microsoft sold more game consoles in 24 hours than Nintendo did in nine months. The Wii U maker is off target with its family-focused content as players opt for the fast-paced PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Nintendo is also losing casual gamers to smartphones and tablets, while refusing to feature iconic characters like Mario and Zelda on mobile devices. The company expects to sell around 6 million Wii U consoles this fiscal year. Sony and Microsoft both sold more than a million consoles during the first day the machines were on sale.
