WAREHAM — A three-year-old child is in the hospital today with non-life threatening injuries after being hit by a car on West Central Avenue in Onset on Saturday night.

According Wareham Week, the child was airlifted from Tobey Hospital at around 6:00 p.m. following the crash that is being ruled as accidental by Wareham Police. They also say that speed and stop compliance were not factors in the incident. The investigation is still ongoing.

Wareham Chief of Police Kevin Walsh told the paper that the child ran out in front of the car driven by an Arlington resident.

"The child received an ankle injury and was transported via MedFlight to Boston due to the serious bone injury," said Walsh. "At this time the investigation shows the incident was accidental and the child ran out into the street."

The identity of the child struck by the car was not released.
