SHREWSBURY (WBSM) — Last week, we told you that the returning Ground Round restaurant in Shrewsbury was bringing back an iconic dessert from our youth, the “baseball cap sundae.”

We still had some questions about other Ground Round memories that might once again become reality, since as the cinnamon dippers, the cartoons projected onto the wall, and of course the star of the show for most of the young kids who ate there, Bingo the Clown.

Well, we’ve got good news for those who suffer from coulrophobia and bad news for those who wanted to wax nostalgic with their favorite clown: Ground Round says Bingo is staying retired.

However, there is a new mascot for the restaurant, currently dubbed “The Ground Round Hound,” and the restaurant is offering you a chance to name him.

The restaurant is taking suggestions on its Facebook page, and the best name will win a $50 certificate to the restaurant.

Some of the suggestions in the comments thus far include “Peanut” (because Ground Round was famous for peanut shells on the floor), “Elvis” (because he’s a hound dog), “Poppy” (for the popcorn you got before your meal), “Pound” (because kids used to pay by the pound for their meal) and even “Bingo” (in honor of the now-retired clown).

Also, while no announcement has been formally made about the cartoons, a photo posted to the page did show cartoons playing on a big-screen TV hanging on the wall; while it’s not exactly the same as the old projected cartoons, it’s still something to bring you back to your childhood.

The Ground Round is operating on a limited-hours basis as a “soft” opening, with a plan to return fully on April 30. This is the only planned location in New England as of right now, but who knows what the future could hold?
