The website of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy has fallen prey to hackers.

According to multiple media reports, the website maritime.edu was hacked Monday, and was redirecting visitors to Islamic extremist websites.

As soon as officials were aware of the problem, the school's firewall was immediately shut down, which locked out all communications from outside users while a review of the website logs was conducted. Officials do not believe any information was stolen, saying it appears the hackers were only looking to broadcast their message.

The IT Department at Mass. Maritime Academy has contacted the Department of Homeland Security, and an investigation into the hacking will be conducted.
