BOURNE (WBSM) — It was a big day in Bourne as Officer Brian Doble returned to full duty 231 days after being struck by a vehicle while working a traffic detail.

The Bourne Police Department posted a photo on its official Facebook page this afternoon welcoming Officer Doble back. He was hit by an SUV while directing traffic at the exit of Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School back on June 9, 2025.

How Was Bourne Officer Brian Doble Struck By a Vehicle?

According to a statement from Bourne Police at the time, Officer Doble was struck by a 2015 Toyota Highlander driven by a 17-year-old Wareham girl. Officer Doble was sent airborne by the impact and landed in the roadway.

He was still able to get up and walk to the side of the road under his own power, and was released from the hospital that same day, but later had to undergo “major surgery,” according to the police department.

Bourne Police Celebrate Officer Doble's Return

Now, he is healed up and back on patrol.

“Throughout the entire recovery, Brian always had a positive attitude and a smile,” the department wrote on Facebook. “Please join us in congratulating Officer Doble on his recovery.”

Safety Changes Near Upper Cape in the Wake of Officer Doble's Injuries

In the wake of the incident, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation increased safety measures in front of the school. According to CapeNews.net, those measures included “speed feedback signs, a reduced speed limit and a temporary signal light.”
