Girl Found Safe by Wareham Resident After Missing Child Report
WAREHAM — A 12-year-old girl previously reported missing from a group home in Wareham has been found safe.
Wareham Police say the girl, identified only as Lily, was reported missing Wednesday from the group home in the Parkwood area of the town.
Police searched the immediate area on Wednesday but were unable to locate Lily.
Acting Police Chief John Walcek, working as control chief of the South Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Search and Rescue Unit, says Lily was located by a resident at 6:45 a.m. on Thursday.
The resident told police that Lily had approached him looking for help as he dropped off his child at a bus stop. The resident was aware that the girl had been reported missing and called Wareham Police. Lily told the man she had been in the woods through most of the night.
Lily was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Dozens of members of law enforcement searched throughout the day and night on Wednesday in the area of Indian Neck Road and Great Neck Road in Wareham after she was initially reported missing.
The Wareham Police Department would like to thank all the Public Safety Agencies for their devoted and continued assistance during the search. We are all please with the successful outcome and we further thank the many residents of Wareham who provided valued information toward this operation.
