WAREHAM — Police arrest an East Wareham man after he nearly crashes into another car and is found with suspected heroin in his vehicle.

At about 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Officer Michael Phinney was traveling on Narrows Road, when he observed a vehicle cross the center line and nearly strike another car, causing that vehicle to drive off of the roadway to avoid a collision.

Officer Phinney stopped the vehicle that had crossed the center line and observed a brown powdery substance on the center console, which was suspected to be heroin.

As a result of that observation, and other factors, James M. MacDonald, 41, of East Wareham was placed under arrest. He was charged with possession of a Class A drug, and failing to stay in marked lanes.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and MacDonald was transported to Wareham Police headquarters for processing. He was scheduled for arraignment Friday morning in Wareham District Court. Officer Eric Machado assisted Officer Phinney in the arrest.
