Dighton Firefighters Battle Cold Temps, Icy Conditions With House Fire
DIGHTON (WBSM) — Firefighters in Dighton battled a house fire while also dealing with freezing temperatures and icy conditions Monday night.
According to Dighton Fire Chief Christopher J. Maguy, firefighters responded at about 9:55 p.m. on January 6 to a report of a house fire at 229 Rose Terrace.
Crews arrived to find fire at the back of the single-family residence. Maguy said all the residents of the home had evacuated by that time.
Despite frigid temperatures and dealing with ice and slippery conditions, the firefighters were able to knock down the fire by 10:26 p.m. No injuries were reported.
"At this time, we believe the fire was started by a bathroom exhaust fan," Chief Maguy said. "The whole back half of the roof burnt through, but the fire was mostly contained to attic spaces."
Maguy also thanked the Taunton, Berkley and Rehoboth fire departments for mutual aid, and the Dighton Police Department for their help at the scene.
He said the fire remains under investigation by the Dighton Fire Department, Dighton Police and the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s Office.
