DARTMOUTH (WBSM) — A Rhode Island man has been arrested for the alleged armed robbery of a Dartmouth smoke shop Friday night.

According to Dartmouth Police, officers responded at about 6:18 p.m. on July 18 for a report of an armed robbery at King Smoke Shop, located at 255 State Road.

Suspect Enters Store With Knife

Police said the suspect entered the business with a knife and threatened several employees with it, making verbal threats to kill them while slashing the knife toward them. He then allegedly removed the cash register containing about $700 from the counter before fleeing the scene in a gray 2025 Honda Civic.

Rhode Island Man Identified as Suspect

The suspect was later identified as Muhammad Sheikh, 40, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Police said the Civic was registered to him.

Police Locate Vehicle in Providence

A “Be on the Lookout (BOLO)” alert was issued and Providence Police then located Sheikh’s vehicle in their city. He was then taken into custody.

Dartmouth Police have charged Sheikh with armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, threatening to commit a crime (murder), assault and battery, malicious destruction of property and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Muhammad Sheikh's Previous Criminal History

Sheikh was previously arrested in Woonsocket in March 2013 for allegedly tossing bags of marijuana out of his vehicle while fleeing from police at a high rate of speed after telling them “I’m outta here” at a traffic stop.
