
You Can See a Rare, Original Declaration of Independence in RI This Month
The Rhode Island Historical Society and the Rhode Island Department of State have teamed up to provide a unique opportunity for history buffs. An original copy of the Declaration of Independence is on display for visitors to see.
A Rare Link to Revolutionary History
"This rare archival document offers an opportunity to engage directly with Rhode Island’s revolutionary history and the broader story of how the ideals of independence were communicated and preserved for the public," Rhode Island 250 said.

When and Where to See the Document
There are two upcoming opportunities to see the famous document in person and speak with content experts. The Declaration of Independence can be viewed at the following locations:
- Saturday, July 11, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Museum of Work and Culture, located at 42 S Main Street in Woonsocket, RI
- Sunday, July 19, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Audrain Museum, located at 222 Bellevue Avenue in Newport, RI

More America 250 Events in the Ocean State
The display of the declaration is just one of the many events taking place throughout the Ocean State in celebration of America's 250th birthday. For example, an exhibit highlighting the American Revolution is currently on display at the RI State Archives in Providence. The exhibit highlights Rhode Island as one of the original 13 colonies, local military and more.
The archives are on display from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through December 31.
