New York Man Arrested for Allegedly Scamming Dartmouth Woman Out of $86K
DARTMOUTH (WBSM) — A Queens, New York man has been arrested for his alleged connection to a scheme that scammed a Dartmouth woman out of $86,500.
Dartmouth Police said that Arman Verma, 21, was arrested following “a successful reverse-sting operation” conducted by Dartmouth detectives from the Special Operations Division and a special agent from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
According to police, the investigation began in May when the victim reported to Dartmouth Police she had been defrauded out of $86,500 through “a sophisticated phone scam.”
“Detective Kyle Berube spoke with the victim, who explained that during the last weeks of May she received several phone calls from an unidentified male who claimed to work for ‘Bank of America’ and ‘Microsoft,’” police said. “The unidentified male stated that the victim's bank account and computer had been compromised, and she would need to hand over cash to fix the problem.”
The unidentified man called the victim several times, and on five different occasions sent a different person to pick up substantial amounts of cash from the victim at her Dartmouth home.
“Prior to picking up the money, the victim was instructed to take a picture of the cash and send it to an email address which was provided to her,” police said.

“This arrest is the result of outstanding investigative work and a testament to our commitment to protecting our community from financial predators. Money scams and financial fraud pose a serious threat to the safety and well-being of our community and will not be tolerated,” Dartmouth Police Chief Brian P. Levesque said.

“The Dartmouth Police Department is committed to investigating every report of financial deception, holding perpetrators accountable, and protecting our residents from those who seek to exploit them for personal gain,” he said.
The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with additional information regarding fraudulent activity should contact Detective Kyle Berube at (508) 910-1760.
Dartmouth Police had previously conducted a similar reverse-sting operation back in September 2024, arresting another man from New York – this time Brooklyn – as a result.
