Dartmouth Police Arrest Student for Attempted Stabbing at High School
DARTMOUTH (WBSM) — Dartmouth Police arrested and charged a student after an attempted stabbing at Dartmouth High School that forced students and staff to shelter in place.
At about 10:30 a.m. today, Dartmouth Police responded to the high school, located at 555 Bakerville Road, regarding a 911 call from inside the school.
Officers arrived to find out two students were involved in an altercation in the hallway but were separated after one of them fled into a nearby office.
Police said the victim was approached by the suspect – a fellow student who was known to them – in the hallway, and that the suspect attempted to stab the victim with a pen that had a screwdriver on the other end.
The victim was able to get away from the suspect and was not physically injured, police said.
Both students were safely separated when the school issued a “shelter in place” to allow school staff and police to locate the weapon.
Police said the suspect was arrested and transported to a local hospital. The student is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault with intent to murder, assault and battery, and assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm.
“Thankfully, no one was hurt during this incident,” Police Chief Brian P. Levesque said. “We’re grateful for the quick response and close collaboration between officers of the Dartmouth Police Department and staff at the Dartmouth High School to not only contain this incident, but for the professionalism and compassion displayed responding to a call for service of this nature.”
