A Boston-based business entity that plans a large cannabis cultivation and processing facility in Wareham would like to put plants in the ground by this spring.

Representatives from Coastal Cultivars appeared before the town's Zoning Board of Appeals again last week with updated plans. The revised plans show 100,000 square feet of outdoor greenhouse space and a new 25,000 square-foot processing plant on 14.5 undeveloped acres at Patterson Brook Road, according to Wicked Local Wareham.

The company principals are Ben Smith, Jarrad Glennon and John Belsan. The three first showed up in town in December of 2018 when they hosted a preliminary community meeting. Belsan told local officials that the facility would not be a retail store, but a “highly technical and regulated cultivation facility.”

Coastal Cultivars will need a special permit from the Zoning Board. Last week's public hearing was continued until Jan. 22.

Wareham is already home to the VeriLife retail marijuana dispensary at 112 Main St. Also, the Colorado-based Organa Brands, a marijuana products manufacturer, plans a factory operation at the old Tremont Nail Factory.

Coastal Cultivars already operates a medical marijuana dispensary in Hull.
