Blue Lives Do Matter, So Speak Up [OPINION]
Anyone who puts on a badge to defend and protect this nation should be outraged by recent comments from U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) that the criminal justice system is racist "front to back."
Warren's comments put a target on the back of every police officer, corrections officer, ICE agent and anyone else who works the gritty and sometimes unfriendly streets of America enforcing the laws of the land. Her remarks are political, and reflect the views of the radical left, and not Main Street America.
Law enforcement needs to push back against Warren's effort to drive a wedge between the police and the citizens they protect. Left unchecked, Warren's comments could incite more violence against our police and public safety officers.
Massachusetts residents were stunned recently by the slaying of two police officers and the shooting of two others.
For our senior senator to float political rhetoric for the purpose of helping her chances of re-election while placing our police officers at greater risk is unacceptable.
The police unions need to speak out in a unified voice against Warren's irresponsible behavior, and the public should support them. Every mayor and select board in this Commonwealth needs to signal their displeasure with Warren's words by expressing their concern for the safety of our law enforcement officers.
Blue lives do in fact matter, and we as citizens need to reject efforts by Warren and others on the left to marginalize the police while placing their lives in jeopardy for nothing more than personal political gain.
