WAREHAM — A Quincy man who allegedly sent threatening text messages to more than one person was arrested by Wareham Police.

According to Police Chief John Walcek, a person contacted the department Monday morning to say they had received a threatening text from an unknown individual. The suspect allegedly told the victim that he would release "various information" about them unless his demands were met.

Wareham Police detectives launched an investigation, and by Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. had a suspect under arrest, Walcek said.

Ricardo Deleon, 22, of Quincy, was arrested and charged with extortion by threat of injury. Police also discovered there was an active warrant for Deleon's arrest.

As a result of the Wareham Police investigation, two other victims were identified, and the relevant police agencies were notified, Walcek said.

Walcek said the department would not release specific information about the allegations at this time. The chief added that he wants to make sure the victim's identity remains confidential.
