Wareham Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter in Stabbing Death

BROCKTON (WBSM) — A Wareham man pleaded guilty today to stabbing a woman in her Rose Point home back in 2020.

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced that Danny Sherman, 58, pled guilty to one count of manslaughter and one count of assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

He was sentenced to serve eight to 10 years on the manslaughter charge, and 10 years probation following on the assault charge.

The charges date back to March 27, 2020, when Wareham Police received a 911 call for a man in distress in a canoe in the water near Marion Road. First responders arrived and located the man, identified as Sherman, and transported him to Tobey Hospital for treatment for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police later received information about a possible death at 3 Woodbridge Avenue in Wareham. Officers responded and found a 57-year-old female later identified as Mardiette Deboyes bleeding and unresponsive in the home. She was determined to be deceased at the scene.

An investigation was launched by Wareham Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office. It was determined that Sherman lived with Deboyes in the home and had stabbed her. He was taken into custody.

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner ruled Deboyes’ death was homicide and the cause was multiple sharp force injuries.
