WAREHAM — A man who phoned in a distress call from a canoe before the bloodied body of a 57-year-old woman was found inside her Rose Point home on Friday has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with her death.

The office of Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced that Danny Sherman, 54, of Wareham, was arrested shortly before 1 p.m. on Friday. Hours earlier, at around 8:15 a.m., the same man had made a 911 distress call from a canoe. He was subsequently located and transported to Tobey Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to previous reports.

On that same day, state and local police responded to 3 Woodbridge Avenue, a small house near the Weweantic River north of Rt. 6. There they reported finding "a 57-year-old female bleeding and unresponsive" who was pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel at the scene.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of the woman's death.

The victim's name was not released by the DA's office. Town assessor records list the owner of the property as Mardiette E. Deboyes.

Sherman is due for arraignment on a single murder charge in Wareham District Court on Monday.
