I love picking out flowers for our dining room table every couple of weeks. They add cheeriness to the space in such a simple, yet elegant way. Living so close to Stop & Shop, it’s easy to swing by the floral section and pick some up during a grocery shopping trip. I might not be able to find chicken products on empty shelves, but the decision to buy a bouquet will make me feel even better because I can support a cause close to home.

Gleason Family YMCA, a division of YMCA Southcoast, has been selected by local Stop & Shop store leadership as the benefiting hunger organization in the Stop & Shop Bloomin' 4 Good Program for the month of February in 2022.

The Stop & Shop Bloomin' 4 Good Program, which launched in February of 2021, is an easy way for shoppers to give back as part of the regular shopping routine. A portion of every Bloomin' 4 Good Bouquet with the red circle sticker sold supports a hunger organization local to the Stop & Shop in which it was purchased. According to Feeding America, every $1 donation to a local hunger organization can provide 10 or more meals to someone in need.

As part of this ongoing program, a different local hunger organization is selected to benefit from the sale of the Bloomin’ 4 Good Bouquet every month at all locations. Gleason Family YMCA was selected as the February beneficiary by local store leadership at the Stop & Shop located at 2991 Cranberry Highway in East Wareham. Gleason Family YMCA will receive a $1 donation for every $10.99 Bloomin' 4 Good Bouquet purchased at this Stop & Shop location in February and be used to help support the Full Plate Project.

To bridge the gap in food insecurity, YMCA Southcoast partnered with Greater Boston Food Bank to launch the Full Plate Project program to alleviate hunger in our local communities. The Y hosts free community markets at five YMCA Southcoast locations, delivers food to affordable housing sites, collaborates with local organizations to address food insecurity, and advocates for equal access to nutritious food on the Southcoast. The project distributed one million pounds of food in 2021 to its members and neighbors.

Debbie Fringuelli is the Senior Executive Director of Gleason Family YMCA. She comments on the impact that this program will have on the Y.

“Flowers can make someone’s day, brighten a room, or spread a smile,” Fringuelli said. “Now they can fight hunger too. Purchase a Bloomin’s 4 Good Bouquet at East Wareham’s Stop & Shop this upcoming February to help the Y fight hunger. Every bouquet sold will feed 10 or more people in need.”

Brighten up your day with a bouquet of flowers that fights hunger in the local community.

SouthCoast Restaurants Offering Fireside Dining

When the weather gets cold, nothing sounds better than warming yourself by a fire. Unless, of course, you also get to have dinner and drinks by that fire. Luckily, there are plenty of restaurants on the SouthCoast and beyond where you can ease your hunger while sitting hearthside.
