South Attleboro Man Killed in Wareham Motorcycle Crash
WAREHAM (WBSM) — A fatal motorcycle crash in Wareham Thursday claimed the life of a South Attleboro man.
Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said Matthew Burns, 49, was killed when he lost control of the motorcycle he was driving and was struck by an SUV on Cranberry Highway.
The incident happened at about 4:45 p.m. on June 5, when Burns was operating a motorcycle traveling northbound in the area of 2309 Cranberry Highway. According to Cruz, witnesses said Burns lost control of the bike and then veered into the southbound lane and was hit by a white Mercedes GLC300.

Wareham Police and Massachusetts State Police that arrived at the scene were unable to revive Burns and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. He had been accompanied by four other motorcyclists, one of whom sustained minor injuries.
The woman driving the Mercedes SUV was interviewed by state police at the hospital, where she received treatment following the crash. It appears the curvature of the roadway through a cranberry bog may have played a part in the crash.
“The woman told investigators she was traveling south on Cranberry Highway when she noted several motorcycle operators traveling in the opposite direction,” the D.A.’s Office said. “While travelling through a bend on the highway, she told police one of the motorcycle operators lost control of his vehicle and she could not avoid crashing into the motorcycle or the operator.”
State police are continuing to investigate the crash.
