Two Families Left Homeless In North End Fire

Two families were forced from their homes early Saturday in a three-story tenement at 195 Collette Street in New Bedford.

According to a Fire Department spokesman, there were no injuries reported.  The fire broke out at 5:15am and kept firefighters busy for several hours.

The spokesman says the cause appears to be accidental, but remains under investigation.  The displaced families were assisted by the Red Cross
