WAREHAM — A person nearly died Sunday morning after being struck by a boat while swimming in Wareham.

The Wareham Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) says at approximately 11:46 a.m., Wareham Police received reports that an individual had been struck by a boat while swimming in Bourne Cove. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the area.

Upon arrival, a WDNR Officer located a victim on the shoreline who had sustained extensive injures from a boat propeller. The officer immediately began lifesaving first-aid to control bleeding before Wareham EMS and Fire arrived to stabilize the victim, who was subsequently transported to Tobey Hospital.

The operator of the vessel remained at the scene and tended to the victim’s injuries until the arrival of first responders.

Foul play is not suspected at this time.  Massachusetts Environmental Police are investigating the incident.

Authorities are not releasing the names of those involved or any further information regarding at this time.
