TAUNTON — Chief Edward Walsh reports that Taunton Police detectives arrested a female student today and charged her with writing a threatening note and leaving it in a bathroom at Taunton High School earlier this week.

Because the student is a juvenile, her identity will not be released.

The 16-year-old female is charged with making threats to a school causing evacuation and public alarm.

Near the end of the school day on Monday, a high school employee found a threatening note inside a bathroom at Taunton High School, and immediately reported it to school administrators. Taunton Police were notified and an investigation was launched.

Because the note included a specific threat directed at Taunton High School and made mention of Tuesday's date, school was cancelled that day for students and faculty at Taunton High School and Parker Middle School, and no after school activities were held. The schools were reopened on Wednesday.

Through a thorough investigation, officers determined that the female had allegedly written the note. Wednesday afternoon she was taken into custody without incident.

The female will be arraigned at Taunton Juvenile Court at a later date.

"This was a great cooperative effort by our detectives, school resource officers, school administrators and faculty to identify this individual," Lt. Eric Nichols said. "Student safety is one of our top priorities. We take situations like these with the utmost seriousness."
