Shoe On Other Foot
I'm cracking up laughing at the hypocrisy of Washington politics about replacing Justice Scalia. President Obama filibustered Judge Alito when he was Senator and now he demands a "smooth" process. So the President wants to avoid "political posturing and ideological brinksmanship." But he was one of the best at doing just that as a Senator. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, it's do as we say - not as we do!
Senator Chuck Schumer, in a development that's likely to cause fits for President Obama, told an audience that he wanted to block any Supreme Court nominations for the last 18 months of President George W. Bush's presidency. That's seven months longer than the time remaining to Obama's presidency. And don't get me started on the hypocrisy of Senator Pat Leahy saying when it was politically to his favor to apply the Thurmond Rule and then when the roles reversed he says there's no such thing as the Thurmond Rule!
And as for the Republicans, they need to let the process work. Let's see who the candidate will be and give him/her a fair confirmation. Then vote up or down, period. It's the right thing to do.
