Providence Zoo Offers Free Admission to Brown University Community After Tragedy
In light of the tragedy that took place on December 13 at Brown University, Roger Williams Park Zoo is opening its gates to offer a moment of comfort and escape for those affected. From now through January 4, students, staff, and faculty with a valid Brown University ID will receive free admission to the zoo.
That free access includes regular daytime visits as well as entry to the popular Holiday Lights Spectacular in the evening. Each Brown ID holder is also welcome to bring one guest along at no cost. Visitors simply need to present their Brown University ID at the Zoo’s admission gate. No advance registration required.
The zoo isn’t alone in stepping up during this difficult time. The City of Providence’s Parks Department is also offering free admission to members of the Brown community at the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center and the Museum of Natural History & Planetarium.

A Place for Comfort and Reflection
Rhode Island has always shown up for one another, and Stacey Johnson, Executive Director of Roger Williams Park Zoo, shared that the goal is to offer a peaceful space during a heavy time.

“We recognize that times of loss and uncertainty can weigh heavily on a community,” Johnson said. “The zoo and the park are places of nature, connection, and reflection, and we hope it can offer a small measure of comfort to those impacted.”
