Police Search For Escaped Gang Member

***Update: Somerville Police have confirmed that Perez has been apprehended and is in custody.***

Somerville Police issued an alert on Friday morning saying that a gang member has escaped federal custody.

Police say that 18-year-old Gabriel Castillo Perez, a "known criminal MS 13 gang member" escaped custody during transport.

A search is underway that involves Somerville Police and federal agencies.

Perez was handcuffed at the time of his arrest and wasn't armed.

Perez, is described as being 5 foot 8 inches tall, 150-160 pounds, wearing a light brown jacket, white button-down shirt, black t-shirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers.

While Perez isn't considered a threat to the community, anyone with information on his whereabouts is being asked to contact Somerville Police 617-625-1600.
