Wareham Police say they tackled a man who ran from them Tuesday afternoon and arrested him on drug charges.

Marcus D. Agee, 26, of West Wareham, was charged with trafficking in more than 10 grams of fentanyl, possession of a Class B drug, subsequent offense, and resisting arrest.

According to a media release from the Wareham Police Department, at about 2:40 p.m., two detectives were conducting surveillance near the Cranberry Plaza Shopping Center. The detectives approached a car near Planet Fitness. The male occupant of the vehicle allegedly grabbed a bag and fled on foot. The detectives pursued him and brought him to the ground, with the suspect actively resisting officers, the release from Wareham Police Chief John Walcek states. After a brief scuffle, the detectives secured the man into handcuffs. One of the detectives received minor injuries but did not seek hospital treatment. The release did not say why police initially approached the man's car or chased him.

Police say over 30 grams of suspected fentanyl, tablets of Adderall, a digital scale, and rubber gloves were located in Agee's bag. In addition, two cell phones and a knife were seized.

Agee was scheduled to appear in Wareham District Court this morning.
