BROCKTON (WBSM) — The man accused of shooting two people to death and injuring two others at a child’s birthday party in Carver has been indicted on murder and firearms-related charges.

Plymouth County Grand Jury Hands Down Indictment

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced that earlier today, a Plymouth County grand jury indicted Nicholas Meuse, 23, on two counts each of murder and armed assault to murder. He is currently being held without bail.

Shooting at Child’s Birthday Party at Carver Club

Carver Police were called to the Saint John the Baptist Club at 53 Silva Street at about 7:21 p.m. on January 24 after receiving reports that multiple people had been shot at a child’s birthday party.

Victims Identified Following Incident

Officers found four victims at the scene, two of whom – Benjamin Cowart, 27, and Jalen Pina, 20 – died as a result of their injuries. Cowart was pronounced deceased at the scene, and Pina was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, where he succumbed to his injuries. A 28-year-old man was taken to Tufts Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening, and a 32-year-old man was taken to South Shore Hospital for treatment.

Suspect Apprehended Near Scene

Meuse was apprehended in the woods shortly after the incident near where the shooting took place.

Investigators determined it was Meuse who called 911 and reported himself as the shooter. He told investigators he had a pre-existing conflict with some of the attendees, and he claimed he saw one of the other attendees reach for their waistband immediately before the incident.
