CARVER (WBSM) — A man is under arrest and charged with the murder of two people shot and killed at a child’s birthday party in Carver Saturday night.

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz and Carver Police Chief Marc Duphily announced Sunday morning that Nicholas Meuse, 23, was in custody and is charged with two counts of murder and armed assault with intent to murder, as well as multiple gun charges.

On January 24 at about 7:21 p.m., Carver Police received several 911 calls reporting multiple people had been shot at the Saint John the Baptist Club, located at 53 Silva Street, where a child’s birthday party was being held.

Victims Identified

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded and found four victims. One victim was identified as Benjamin Cowart, 27, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another victim, Jalen Pina, 20, was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, where he died as a result of his injuries.

A 28-year-old male victim was taken to Tufts Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. A 32-year-old male victim was taken to South Shore Hospital for treatment.

Suspect Arrested Near the Scene

Police located Meuse down the street from the club. He was arrested and taken to Carver Police headquarters. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Wareham District Court.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

The investigation remains ongoing by Massachusetts State Police and Carver Police.
