UPDATE: Macedo was sentenced to life in prison.
FALL RIVER (WBSM) — A New Bedford man is scheduled to be sentenced tomorrow after he was convicted last week of first-degree murder in the 2023 death of a city man.
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced that John Geovanni Pires Monteiro Macedo, 23, was convicted on October 1 of first-degree murder by deliberate premeditation, as well as firearms offenses.
Macedo is scheduled to be sentenced tomorrow, October 7, in Fall River Superior Court.

Fatal Ambush on County Street
The charges date back to August 3, 2023, when Macedo approached a vehicle parked on County Street in New Bedford just after 11 p.m. The victim, Amarito Fernandes, 27, was inside the vehicle. While standing outside the vehicle, Macedo pulled out a firearm and shot Fernandes several times as the victim attempted to flee.
