WAREHAM — A West Wareham man faces multiple charges after he tried to flee from police on a motorcycle.

Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m., Sgt. Paul Somers was on patrol in the area of Tobey Road and Main Street. While stopped at the stop sign on Main Street, Sgt. Somers observed a red dirt bike-style motorcycle in his rearview mirror cross over the center line into oncoming traffic, then quickly cross in front of his cruiser, going on to the shoulder of the road and then run through the stop sign. The motorcycle went under the South Wareham Bridge and stalled.

Sgt. Somers pulled up to the motorcycle and was joined by Officer Christopher Smith. The male operator then was able to restart the motorcycle and tried to flee; however, he was grabbed by Officer Smith and placed under arrest.

Markiese Tomkinson, 22, of West Wareham, was charged with operating with a suspended license; negligent operation of a motor vehicle; failure to stop for police; failure to stop at a stop sign; marked lanes violation; and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
