Police received a call from the suspect's mother at 4 a.m. on August 13 stating that MacDonald was acting erratic inside the residence on Cherry Street.

Upon arrival, police found MacDonald barricaded in his room, shouting and threatening to cause harm to the officers.

That's when officers attempted to negotiate with MacDonald and encouraged him to leave his room.

After some time, officers tried to enter the room but found that MacDonald barricaded himself inside and used a mattress to block the doorway.

According to police, they were unaware at the time that MacDonald was armed with a knife. As they began to push on the door, MacDonald began to exit the room and stabbed one officer in the forearm twice with the knife.

Two officers deployed their Taser devices, with one successfully hitting MacDonald.

The injured police officer was transported by a Coastal Ambulance to an area hospital, where he was treated and released.

MacDonald was taken into custody and was later transported to a hospital for additional treatment. He is expected to be arraigned in Wareham District Court.

"I'm very proud of our officers who displayed great restraint and professionalism in dealing with a dangerous, armed individual during a difficult situation," Chief Joseph Perkins said. "I have spoken with our injured officer and he is doing well. Police officers are required to respond to all manner of unpredictable calls and situations, where their job requires them to place themselves between a dangerous, armed individual and protect citizens."
