MIDDLEBORO (WBSM) — One suspect has been arrested and police are seeking another following a stabbing incident in Middleboro Thursday night.

Center Street Response and Investigation

Middleboro Police responded at about 11:16 p.m. on May 21 to a report of a stabbing at a home on Center Street. Officers arrived to find the two suspects had fled the scene.

According to police, the investigation revealed that “during a small gathering, an argument ensued involving multiple people. A 35-year-old man was allegedly held against his will, assaulted by two men and stabbed in the back of his head.”

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

Suspects Identified and Charges Filed

Police were able to identify two suspects in the stabbing: Jason Hancock, 43, and Nicholas Bernier, 46, both of Middleboro. Both men are charged with kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and witness intimidation. Bernier also faces a second count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Arraignment and Active Arrest Warrant

Hancock was arrested at his home and is expected to be arraigned Friday in Wareham District Court. An arrest warrant has been obtained for Bernier.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.

The Victims in the New Bedford Highway Murders

The New Bedford highway murders took place in 1988, with the bodies discovered into 1989. The killer is confirmed to have killed nine women and suspected of murdering at least two more. Although there were at least three different men considered as suspects by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the murders remain unsolved and the families of the victims are still searching for closure.
